Ammonia Treatment using Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors
Project Highlights
Integrated Sustainability was contracted to design a water treatment plant to support a Mines Act Permit Amendment at a gold project. The design addressed complex influent conditions across three sources, integrating moving bed bioreactor treatment into ammonia removal. Two temperature-resilient ammonia removal options were developed to accommodate cold-season flows.
Project Deliverables
- Completed treatment design for up to 8,700 cubic metres per day of ammonia-laden water and 32,706 cubic metres per day of metals-impacted water.
- Developed two full ammonia treatment configurations to maintain performance in low water temperatures.
- Designed chemical dosing systems for lime, ferric sulphate, and flocculants.
- Conducted a hazard and operability review to identify design risks and integrate operational refinements into the final design.
- Prepared technical specifications and design packages for major treatment equipment and modular systems.
