Brownfield Mine Site Reactivation Permitting Support
Project Highlights
Integrated Sustainability developed a comprehensive management plan for potential acid generating and metal-leaching materials at a reopened mine site. The plan addressed updated regulatory conditions and aligned spoil construction, waste classification, and contact water monitoring with permit requirements.
Project Deliverables
- Prepared a management plan for acid-generating and metal-leaching risks in waste rock, tailings, overburden, and reject materials.
- Defined material classification criteria based on laboratory test results and ratios of neutralizing to acid-forming potential.
- Outlined spoil construction practices including layered blending and drainage to limit contact water generation.
- Set chemical thresholds for construction materials and provided field testing requirements for approval.
- Established monitoring programs for spoil seeps, pit surfaces, and reject material storage. Outlined actions for exceedances, misclassified material, or incomplete neutralization during placement.
