project details

Aqueous Chemical Modelling of Source Water Mixing

project overview

Integrated Sustainability evaluated the effects of mixing source waters from different geological formations using aqueous chemical modeling. It included precipitation risks and operational impacts and provided recommendations for optimal water blending between several oil and gas facilities.

project deliverables

  • Evaluated mixing and process affects from use of source water from different formations.
  • Used aqueous chemical modelling software to study potential operational impacts.
  • Provided both short-term and long-term solution recommendations for the optimal blend and allocation of source waters between different operating facilities.
  • Evaluated chemical modelling of 2 cases: Mixing 2 source waters to determine if precipitation of barite and celestite were likely if the 2 source waters were mixed prior to the use in a Hot Lime Softener (HLS) and for using a new source as plant make-up water.
  • Provided a guideline document for Operations team when making source water decisions based on key water parameters, such as HLS throughput, rise rates, and water chemistry.
