Mine Water Treatment Saturated Rock Fill Development & Testing
Project Highlights
Integrated Sustainability consistency tested semi-passive water treatment for mine operations using saturated rock fill technology. It involved regulatory engagement, groundwater well installation, and pilot-scale testing to evaluate treatment boundaries and effectiveness.
Project Deliverables
- Engaged with regulator to create a Regulatory Roadmap to chart the path to successful permits and/or permit amendments and approvals for project implementation.
- Installed and field-tested nested groundwater monitoring wells and groundwater injection and extraction wells.
- Collected water and soil samples for laboratory scale treatment evaluation to define treatment expectations and boundaries (timelines, rates, extents, and if reagents are needed).
- Groundwater samples collected for routine water quality analysis (including nutrients) dissolved metals, chemical oxygen demand (COD), add dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and biological oxygen demand (BOD).
- Additionally, samples were collected from each well for selenium speciation during the testing phase.
- Defined pilot-scale operation with success criteria, risk factors, and an approach to pilot-scale installation and testing.
