Mine Discharge Planning and Compliance Support
Project Highlights
Integrated Sustainability supported the development of an adaptive water management framework and initial dilution zone modelling to guide discharge planning and compliance at a mine. A site-specific plan was developed to link monitoring programs with mitigation strategies and trigger response protocols. Concurrently, mixing zone modelling for the river discharge identified spatial thresholds for safe dilution, informing diffuser design and site permitting strategies.
Project Deliverables
- Developed an adaptive water management plan linking monitoring programs with discharge limits, response actions, and mitigation strategies.
- Established discharge thresholds for parameters of potential concern based on regulatory guidance and loading-based calculations.
- Outlined a tiered trigger action response plan with real-time alert protocols and defined mitigation timelines.
- Completed dilution zone modelling using field data and mixing simulations to define safe effluent release boundaries.
- Recommended discharge design parameters and diffuser requirements to achieve chronic toxicity benchmarks.
- Delivered technical documentation to support permitting, monitoring, and discharge planning.
