The Challenge
The client was seeking to dispose of wastewater into an isolated pocket of a geological unit barred from disposal activity. The challenge was to determine and assess representative hydrochemical and isotopic characteristics for specific hydrostratigraphic units to assist in determining the client’s assertion that the pocket was isolated.
The Result
Two sampling programs (conducted in the winters of 2013 to 2015) included collection of groundwater samples and dissolved gas from 20 wells.
Multiple lines of geochemical and isotopic evidence support hydrochemical separation between the mobile water zones and the basal aquifer.
