Water Intake, Water Treatment Plant & Storage Infrastructure
Development of a 10,000 m3/day river water intake, water storage tanks, 10,000 m3/day treatment facility, and 200,000 m3 saline water storage ponds

Development of a 10,000 m3/day river water intake, water storage tanks, 10,000 m3/day treatment facility, and 200,000 m3 saline water storage ponds

Evaluate 3 sites and several water intake technology options for a 60,000 m3 per day water intake on the Liard River in British Columbia.

Integrated Sustainability was retained by the client to design a revised river intake that reduces the volume of sediment that is introduced into the raw water supply system. The revised system is to provide increased reliability and easier maintenance. The new design would need to be completed and submitted to receive regulatory approval within a condensed timeline.

Integrated Sustainability was retained to execute the design phase of the client’s Water Hub and Intake Pipeline infrastructure project. The Water Hub and associated infrastructure was required to store and distribute 300,000 m³ of water between two storage ponds, while the Intake Pipeline utilized a pumping system to transport the water over 5.5 km from the source to the Water Hub.

Prepare, submit and gain approval for a Water Act Term License on a waterbody for which there are currently no approved term licences.

Alluvial aquifer characterization program to identify a reliable source of surface water infrastructure to support development activities.

Obtain a term licence under the Water Act from the Kakwa River as a supplement two 200,000 m3 and 400,000 m3 surface runoff reservoirs.

Evaluate the feasibility of surface water options for source water in two asset areas in the Smoky River in order to support decisions about where to put water intake infrastructure.

Feasibility evaluation of various surface water options for source water and preparation of a Water Act application for the selected option.

After completing the conceptual Intake design and alternative source evaluation, we were able to develop and submit the Water Act Term Licence application, and we provided technical support during Alberta Energy Regulator Review.

Evaluate the existing intake infrastructure for regulatory compliance, and provide risk mitigation options for operational changes.

Site identification, including review of existing geotechnical investigations, regulatory application, and selection of two water hub sites.
