Integrated Sustainability was asked to prepare a flowback sampling program for two hydraulic fracturing flowback events. The sampling was performed to provide a baseline characterization of the N2-foam linear gel flowback waters and determine the required treatment process for flowback reuse. The flowback had elevated concentrations of NORM, salinity, bacteria and heavy metals. The challenge was to determine a cost effective treatment solution that would be sufficiently robust to handle the variable flowback water quality.
Integrated Sustainability successfully provided a baseline characterization of the hydraulic fracturing flowback and identified operational procedures and regulatory requirements for the safe management of NORM. In addition, Integrated Sustainability identified the water quality parameters of concern, and recommended treatment processes that would provide a cost effective and robust treatment solution.
