The Challenge
The major objective of the project was to retrofit the existing water treatment plant (WTP) to meet the water treatment performance criteria, ensuring that source water from the Peace River could be used for make-up to the steam generator circuit. The primary treatment requirement was to soften and reduce silica to acceptable feedwater levels for boiler makeup for an operating drum pressure of 425 psig.
The Result
The required treated water flow rate for the upgraded WTP was 420 US gallons per minute (gpm) average (nominal), 600 gpm peak flow. The upgrade WTP included use of existing equipment, both installed and in-service components and warehoused (i.e. not installed) components as well as new equipment. The process and equipment details were fully described in the proposal.
