The Challenge
Integrated Sustainability was asked to study the effect of stream mixing water disposal challenges, specifically related to mixing of thermal heavy oil produced water blow down (BD) with other waste streams such as emulsion treating liquids.
The Result
This study’s review of laboratory analysis and aqueous chemical modeling identified potential issues in terms of stream compatibility as a result of blending waste streams, and blending with connate waters within the formation. The two scales that were most common as a result of the mixing were silica and calcite.
