Trans Mountain Pipeline Commences Operations
Ten years after the first application was submitted to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), the Trans Mountain Expanded System commenced commercial operations. The pipeline has been successfully filled with crude oil at the terminal in Edmonton, Alberta, to load tankers at the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, BC.
Furthermore, the Government of Canada released the 2024 National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report and estimates a 30% decrease in emissions since 2005. Alberta updates also include emissions reduction news with the Government of Alberta announcing a $50 million investment to help industries develop and commercialize technologies to reduce emissions.
In addition to these developments, the Government of British Columbia introduced new regulations and updates to the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines, which regulates all stages of mining, from exploration to reclamation.
