CALGARY, Alberta: April 4, 2023 – The Globe and Mail named Integrated Sustainability one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for the 6th consecutive year.
The theme for this year’s award focused on flexibility and agility. The award recipients chosen represent ‘laboratories of innovation’ regarding progressive human resources policies and forward-thinking workplace programs.
“The employers chosen this year represent the ‘best of the best’ and many have pioneered initiatives that would have been unthinkable five years ago,” says Kristina Leung, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
Frank Laxshimalla, manager of projects at Integrated Sustainability, reflects on his personal career growth with the company over the past 10 years. “Because we’re a relatively small business, we have to work outside of our comfort zones, learn about other areas of expertise, and band together to solve challenges,” he says. “And that speaks to the culture – there’s a lot of camaraderie.”
Integrated Sustainability’s open-door communication policy, culture of connection and empowerment, and above-average parental benefits create a special workplace that is diverse and fosters deeper colleague connections across all levels.
“There’s not a diversity barrier in any shape or form,” adds Laxshimalla. “It’s very open and level, and every opinion is valued. I’m proud of that.”
Canada’s SME Top 100 Award Criteria and Company Background
Now in its 10th year, employers are evaluated by the editors at Canada’s Top 100 SME Employers using the same criteria as the Top 100 competition:

Employers must have less than 500 employees worldwide, including employees at affiliated companies, and be a commercial, for-profit business.
The complete list of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for 2023 was announced in a special magazine co-published with The Globe and Mail. Detailed reasons for selection for each of the winners were released by the editors today and are accessible via the competition homepage.
