How do you decide what level of analysis is appropriate for a site?

We scale analysis based on how flow and flood behaviour will be relied on in decision-making. That includes the sensitivity of layout or protection decisions, regulatory expectations, data quality, and consequence of exceedance. Methods are selected to match decision risk, not applied uniformly.

Does this replace detailed flood modelling?

No. This work defines flow and flood scenarios, thresholds, and constraints suitable for feasibility testing, layout decisions, and regulatory discussion. Detailed two-dimensional flood modelling or final design analyses may still be required for permitting submissions, detailed engineering, or construction documentation.

How are extreme events considered?

Extreme events are assessed using appropriate return periods, sensitivity cases, and boundary conditions relevant to the site and regulatory context. The evaluation makes uncertainty, applicability, and limitations explicit so extreme scenarios are used appropriately in safety, access, and risk decisions rather than treated as absolute predictions.

Is this service suitable for low-risk sites?

Yes, scope can be scaled to match risk. For lower-risk sites, targeted hydrological definition can still confirm whether assumed flow behavior and flood exposure are appropriate, or whether more detailed analysis is warranted before layout or infrastructure decisions are finalized.

Can outputs inform emergency planning?

Outputs can inform high-level understanding of access constraints, flood exposure, and credible worst-case scenarios. However, detailed emergency response planning typically requires additional site-specific analysis, operational inputs, and coordination with emergency management authorities.
