Expanding Equipment Capabilities with CWT Acquisition
Expanding Equipment Capabilities with CWT Acquisition

Integrated Sustainability expanded its platform with the acquisition of Canadian Water Technologies Ltd. (CWT), a Calgary-based provider of high purity water treatment equipment supply, fabrication, and system integration services. This addition strengthens our ability to align engineering design with equipment procurement and delivery—reducing execution gaps across the project lifecycle. By bringing fabrication and supply in-house, the acquisition enables full-service delivery of water treatment systems across industrial sectors and supports expansion into new markets, including healthcare, while positioning the business for continued growth.

Advancing Biological Treatment with Commercial-Scale MBBR

Integrated Sustainability delivered Canada’s first commercial-scale moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) system for treating mine effluent, designed to remove selenium and nitrate at a capacity of 520 gpm. The project included full design, equipment supply, and field engineering support, with a modular and scalable configuration to adapt to evolving regulatory requirements. By integrating specialized media carriers, aeration systems, and optimized tank internals, the facility enhances biological treatment performance and sets a new standard for high-efficiency water treatment in the mining sector.

Expanding Innovation & Technical Capabilities with Maven Acquisition

Integrated Sustainability expanded its science, testing, and innovation capabilities through the acquisition of Maven Water and Environment. Based in Saskatoon, the acquisition added a fifth office location and brought in-house laboratory facilities for research, pilot testing, modelling, and validation—strengthening early-stage project definition and reducing design uncertainty. Combined with Maven’s expertise in passive and biological treatment technologies, this integration enhances our ability to deliver low-carbon, fit-for-purpose water solutions across mining, energy, and industrial sectors.

Advanced Water Reclamation in the Caribbean

Integrated Sustainability, alongside Ecohesion, delivered a first-of-its-kind advanced water reclamation plant at Sam Lord’s Castle Resort in Barbados. The plant combines membrane-aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) and membrane bioreactor (MBR) technologies to meet high-quality reuse standards. Designed to protect sensitive marine environments and reduce reliance on potable water, the system enables safe wastewater reuse for irrigation and future non-potable applications, setting a new benchmark for sustainable water management in the region’s resort industry.

Ecohesion Joins Integrated Sustainability

The acquisition of Ecohesion International Inc. expanded our design-build-operate capabilities across the Caribbean. Ecohesion brought established water treatment and reuse facilities, along with strong regional alignment in markets driven by environmental, regulatory, and commercial demand for sustainable solutions. Together, we’ve accelerated knowledge sharing across regions, strengthened operational delivery, and enhanced our ability to deliver integrated water, waste, and energy solutions at scale.

Passive Closure Mine Reclamation

Integrated Sustainability delivered a first-of-its-kind passive closure solution for a legacy tailings facility in British Columbia, combining engineered capping, structural stabilization, and digital construction oversight. By designing for long-term physical and environmental stability, the project reduced the risk of metal leaching and downstream impacts. This approach minimized the need for ongoing active treatment, lowering long-term costs and liabilities while setting a new benchmark for sustainable mine closure.

First-of-its-Kind Pilot in Western Canada

‘Integrated Sustainability advanced a first-of-its-kind produced water recycling solution, beginning with a pilot in 2016 where we were selected through a competitive design process. This early work progressed to full-scale facility construction in 2020. The commercial system, designed to treat up to 11,000 m³/d, applies a technology-agnostic, fit-for-purpose approach—combining microbubble flotation and customized filtration to enable saline produced water reuse for hydraulic fracturing. Delivered under a fixed-price, performance-guaranteed model and executed in two phases, the fully operational facility demonstrates a scalable and reliable solution for water reuse in Western Canada’s energy sector.

Growth and International Expansion

A period of rapid growth saw us expand our team, relocate to a larger Calgary headquarters, and establish our 3rd and 4th office locations in Barbados and Texas. Our expansion into the Caribbean was driven by opportunities to improve water, waste, and renewable energy management, particularly in regions facing infrastructure and resource challenges. In the United States, our Houston presence enabled us to facilitate and execute larger more complex projects, expand our water advisory and infrastructure delivery capabilities in the Permian Basin, and help improve the sustainable use of water in US oil and gas sector.

Success of Diversification Strategy

We expanded beyond oil and gas with the opening of our 2nd corporate office location in Vancouver, BC, marking our entry into the minerals and metals mining sector. Our initial focus on mine dewatering leveraged our deep expertise in water and wastewater treatment. Since then, this capability has grown into full-scale mine water treatment project development and operations, supporting clients across the mining lifecycle.

Water Management Company of the Year

Integrated Sustainability was named Water Management Company of the Year at the Canadian Oil & Gas Industry Summit. The recognition highlighted our comprehensive, technically rigorous approach and our contributions to advancing water management practices for clients and the broader industry.

Advancing Water Reuse in Alberta

We supported the regulatory approval of Alberta’s first produced water and hydraulic fracture flowback storage pond. At the time, Alberta’s Directive 058 largely limited storage to tanks or deep-well disposal. By demonstrating that high-integrity engineered ponds—featuring double-liner systems and leak detection—could safely store water for reuse, this milestone helped unlock new approaches to oilfield water management and reduce reliance on freshwater sources across the industry.

Small Business of the Year

Integrated Sustainability was recognized by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce as Small Business of the Year, reflecting early leadership, innovation, and the impact of our differentiated approach to water management and infrastructure delivery.
