project details

Flow Modelling and Water Availability Assessment for Regional Water Security Planning

project overview

Integrated Sustainability conducted a hydrological assessment to model flow variations and evaluate water availability for improved regional water security. Consideration was given to environmental impacts, infrastructure, and cumulative water needs for future water management in the region.

project deliverables

  • Used historic climate (precipitation, temperature, and evapotranspiration), stream flow, land cover, and soil type data to develop a hydrological model for a 296 km2 lake catchment area to characterize the expected flow variations in the lake over the year.
  • Performed basin-scale hydrological analysis, estimated weekly inflow volumes and lake reservoir levels using regional climate and streamflow datasets.
  • Conducted field investigations at site, capturing shoreline substrate, outflow characteristics, topography, and site photos to verify suitability for water extraction.
  • Assessed cumulative impacts of proposed and existing water withdrawals on the Lake’s hydrology.
