Paper & Pulp Mill Water Intake Upgrade to 25,000 m3/d

project overview

Integrated Sustainability evaluated and upgraded the water intake system for a pulp and paper facility in British Columbia. After analyzing several options, a Riverbank Filtration (RBF) system was selected and installed. The intake improved water supply reliability and minimized environmental impact on aquatic life, with a capacity of 25,000 m3/d.

project deliverables

  • Conducted a review of the existing water supply infrastructure.
  • Performed a detailed analysis of water supply options including upgrading the current system, developing an in-river water intake system, and developing a new RBF system to access surface water supply through local alluvial materials.
  • Performed a life cycle total cost analysis that identified the installation of a vertical well RBF system as the preferable approach.
  • Completed the geophysical evaluation, and drilling and completion of the alluvial aquifer source wells in proximity to the river, along with the associated engineering work.
  • Completed the installation and testing of an RBF system comprising 4 vertical wells to supply 25,000 m3/d.
