project details

Environmental Impact Study to Assess Effluent Discharge

project overview

Integrated Sustainability conducted an Environmental Impact Study to assess effluent discharge from a rural mobile wastewater treatment plant. It enabled compliance with aquatic protection standards, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and supported innovative wastewater management.

project deliverables

  • Completed a fish and aquatic habitat assessment, bathymetric survey, and stream gauging to document existing baseline environmental conditions.
  • Conducted water sampling, effluent assessments, chemical characterization, and dilution modelling potential for the receiving waterbody to determine aquatic toxicity thresholds.
  • Analyzed benthic invertebrate data to determine community composition pre-discharge.
  • Proactively developed pre and post discharge monitoring programs to include the characterization of potential influences of nearby mines, to reflect the net impacts of the waste water treatment plant effluent.
  • Applied statistical modelling of low flows under varying return years and seasonal variation based on exceedance probabilities.
  • Used data collected during the desktop and field monitoring to directly assess the predicted impact of the effluent on the aquatic environment.
