project overview

Integrated Sustainability completed engineering and execution support for a retrofit of a water treatment system to accommodate membrane-based treatment. The design replaced aging cold lime softening infrastructure with ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis to improve boiler feedwater quality. Existing and warehoused equipment was integrated, enabling the plant to meet a peak capacity of 3,270 m³/d while minimizing footprint and capital outlay.

project deliverables

  • Designed new sodium zeolite softeners rated for 3,270 m³/d to replace legacy units, improving hardness removal and downstream boiler protection.
  • Reused and refurbished the existing surge tank and larger treated water storage tanks, with scope including inspection, internal coating assessment, and instrumentation upgrades.
  • Configured a revised process train including lamella clarification and degassing to meet boiler feedwater specifications consistent with American society of mechanical engineers’ standards at 2,930 kiloPascal (kPa) drum pressure.
  • Prepared complete equipment supply, construction, and commissioning documentation, including Class 2 cost estimates and operating expense forecasts.
