Mine Water Quality Mitigation Report

Integrated Sustainability - Industrial Water Treatment Services and Equipment
project details

Comprehensive Mitigation Strategy for Total Suspended Solids

project overview

Integrated Sustainability developed a comprehensive mitigation strategy to address water quality risks related to selenium, nitrate, sulphate, and total suspended solids at an active mine site. Working from modelled exceedances and site-specific conditions, a hierarchy of passive, semi-passive, and active treatment options was defined.

project deliverables

  • Assessed mine-wide water quality risks using modelled discharge predictions and field data to define contaminant source pathways.
  • Defined mitigation strategies across avoidance, minimization, and restoration tiers to align with regulatory conditions for discharge performance.
  • Reviewed current blending ratios for non-acid and potentially acid-generating materials and flagged areas for improved controls.
  • Recommended expansion of sediment pond storage at three priority locations to reduce winter loading during low-flow periods.
  • Outlined flocculant system enhancements.
  • Identified progressive reclamation approaches using till cover materials and monitored slope regrading to reduce infiltration and total suspended solids.
  • Evaluated long-term readiness of semi-passive technologies, including saturated rock fill and biochemical reactors, and scoped next-phase testing.
