project details

Tailings Facility Reclamation & Passive Closure with 61,000 m³ Dewatered

project overview

Integrated Sustainability constructed a cover system for the closure of a mine tailings facility. Integrated Sustainability was engaged under a lump-sum turnkey delivery model to execute site development, tailings backfill, spillway installation, and toe berm expansion.

project deliverables

  • Delivered engineered toe berm extension with sub-excavation to expose existing drain rock and lift-by-lift geotextile placement.
  • Dewatered approximately 61,000 m3 of water for release.
  • Handled monitoring of discharge rates and total suspended solids required for regulatory compliance.
  • Supported the move to passive closure by eliminating ponded water behind the tailings and dam, increasing dam stability.
  • Constructed new spillway with rock blasting, geosynthetic liner installation, and energy dissipation structures to control runoff during high-flow events
  • Backfilled the tailings pond using on-site and imported material.
  • Installed tailings cover and completed surface grading using GPS-enabled equipment.
