project details

Water Treatment Options Best Achievable Technology Assessment

project overview

Integrated Sustainability completed a Best achievable Technology assessment to evaluate water treatment options for multiple mine discharge locations. Using predictive modelling and regulatory guidance, discharge volumes and parameter concentrations were defined across operational phases. Each location was screened for technical suitability, resulting in preferred treatment pathways.

project deliverables

  • Compiled projected flow and contaminant profiles for 13 discharge locations over a 25-year period using predictive water quality modeling.
  • Identified parameters of potential concern where predicted concentrations exceeded 80% of applicable aquatic life guideline thresholds.
  • Screened and ranked 20 treatment technologies using feasibility, reliability, treatment effectiveness, and cost-based evaluation criteria.
  • Recommended discharge-specific treatment technologies, including groundwater extraction systems, anaerobic bioreactors, constructed wetlands, and chemical treatment processes.
  • Matched preferred treatment technologies to discharge locations with projected flows ranging from 29 to 149,190 m³/d.
  • Prepared design basis documentation for each discharge location to support future engineering and treatment planning.
