Integrated Sustainability supported the continued operation of a thermal heavy oil facility’s water management system. A renewal application was submitted following review of the site’s water treatment capacity and operational compliance. The submission responded to the nearing expiry of the existing approval and considered site upgrades and additional analytical data. This effort confirmed the water treatment plant could continue receiving effluent without adverse effects and positioned the plant for multi-year regulatory continuity.

• Reviewed the regulatory history and assessed compliance with security provisions under the municipal wastewater regulation.
• Evaluated 2 compliance pathways: updating an existing assurance plan or securing financial instruments equivalent to full facility replacement costs.
• Contacted financial institutions to confirm conditions and annual costs for issuing a surety bond or irrevocable letter of credit.
• Reviewed the existing assurance plan and identified key deficiencies requiring third-party revision prior to expert review.
• Outlined the qualifications and ministry acceptance criteria for expert consultants authorized to assess assurance plans.
