Inspection of 86 Remote Water and Wastewater Systems Across 31 Indigenous Communities

Integrated Sustainability conducted annual performance inspections of 86 water and wastewater systems across 31 Indigenous communities in Northern British Columbia, assessing water supply safety, treatment system effectiveness, wastewater treatment performance, and operational needs. This project engaged community leaders so that reliable water services and specific system concerns would be addressed.

project deliverables

  • Evaluated community water treatment process for: safe water supply, source water protection, effective water treatment systems, treated water storage, water distribution, and fire suppression.
  • Supported system operations & maintenance (O&M) planning and support, wastewater systems, wastewater influent and effluent characterization, wastewater collection system, treatment technology performance assessment, surface and ground disposal, and residuals management.
  • Engaged with Indigenous community administrators, public works manager(s), O&M supervisor(s), and/or the O&M representative(s) to obtain a general overview of the assessment of performance indicator process, discuss any concerns the community has regarding their system performance, monitoring data, and maintenance status, and identify any specific training needs.
