The Challenge
Integrated Sustainability was approached by the Client to develop a Water Security Management Plan (WSMP) with the goal of ensuring available source(s) of water to support future operations. The WSMP was also tasked with identifying suitable water disposal options, and ensuring the long-term viability and reliability of water sources and disposal zones.
The Result
The WSMP Integrated Sustainability developed is a guidance document meant to identify where, when, and if measures need to be taken to de-risk water reliant operations. Deliverables included:
- Developing a methodology for a more consistent integrated approach to water risk identification, evaluation, communication, and management
- Creating an approach that aligns with corporate drivers regarding water use and management, and contributes to achieving corporate goals and objectives towards sustainability
- Gaining a better understanding of the local operating environment, including the political, economical, social, technical, legal, and environmental constraints to identify potential risk exposure points and tailor solutions to mitigate these risks
- Considering internal and external drivers and potential cumulative effects that may affect short and long term sustainability of water supplies or disposal strategies, adaptively manage change, and justify current water use
- Identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies based on justifiable rationale
- Becoming a forward thinking industry leader in water management
- Achieving water security
