The Challenge
Evaluate the potential process advantages and operational issues associated with boiler “rifle tube” retrofits for a SAGD Water Treatment Plant. Consider additional equipment required, and whether increased maintenance will be needed.
Conduct process modelling, a heat integration study, and a water chemistry analysis to determine the consequences to the plant if steam quality increases and what effect changed waste streams will have.
The Result
Successfully delivered a study that evaluated the process benefits and impacts expected at 90% steam quality (target case), as well as at an intermediate steam quality scenario.
Six modification options or additions to the process equipment were proposed to evaluate the heat integration impacts of increased steam quality and consequent reduced boiler blowdown flowrate. The options were ranked and the preferred option was selected.
