The Challenge
Integrated Sustainability was tasked with evaluating the potential process advantages and operational issues associated with boiler “rifle tube” retrofits for an Industrial Water Treatment Plant. Moreover, it was critical to consider additional equipment required, and whether increased maintenance wold be needed. The team conducted process modeling, a heat integration study, and a water chemistry analysis to determine the consequences to the plant is steam quality were to increase and what effect changed waste streams would have on the system.
The Result
Integrated Sustainability was able to successfully deliver a study that evaluated the process benefits and impacts expected at 90% steam quality (the target case), as well as at an intermediate steam quality scenario.
Six modification options or additions to the process equipment were proposed to evaluate the heat integration impacts of increase steam quality and consequent boiler blowdown flowrate. The options were tanked and the preferred option was selected.
